OBU: 63 Paremata-Plimmerton: 7
The Old Boys-University Premiers ran in 11 tries, seven of which came in the second half, to beat Paremata-Plimmerton 63-7 at Ngatitoa Domain today.
Sam Reid opened the scoring for OBU, crossing the line after five minutes. Winger Trevahn Ta’ufo’ou then added two more tries to push the score to 17-0 after only about 20 minutes.
Towards the end of the first half, a scuffle broke out after Reece Plumtree was tackled without the ball. Play continued temporarily, and it looked as though OBU might score but referee Satoshi Otsuka became aware of the extra-curricular activities taking place and put a stop to play. After some deliberation between Otsuka and his assistants, Paremata-Plimmerton winger Rocky Manisy was sent to the sin-bin for his part in the altercation.
A couple of phases after the ensuing penalty, Teariki Ben-Nicholas waltzed over to score OBU’s fourth try of the afternoon.
OBU would then keep Paremata-Plimmerton scoreless in the first half, holding the ball up over the line to put an end to the half. Although, OBU fullback Sam Reid did receive a yellow card for being offside at the ruck during the final moments of the half.
OBU’s Adam Clark scored to open the second half before Paremata-Plimmerton came back to score a try of their own.
From there it was one-way traffic as OBU ran in six more tries to finish the match.
Ta’ufo’ou completed his hat trick when he got the ball 40 meters out, beat his man on the outside and then stepped the fullback to score in the corner.
Blindside flanker Caleb Delany and reserve back Jack Green then both scored doubles whilst Sam Reid added another to push the fulltime score out to 63-7.
