OBU: 48 Upper Hutt: 0

Old Boys-University has gone unbeaten through the round-robin stage of the Hardham Cup after keeping the Upper Hutt Rams scoreless today.

OBU got off to a blistering hot start, running in four tries in the opening 10 minutes, all while playing into a blustery wind.

The first try came after Augustin Escalona went high to claim the opening kick, immediately putting OBU into Upper Hutt territory.

Finnbarr Kerr-Newell then scored his first of three tries for the afternoon when Matt Fowler found him about 20m from the line and he did the rest.

Sam Reid claimed the third OBU try following another break from deep in their out own half, Reid absorbing a big hit before spinning over for the try.

Once again attacking from deep in their own half, OBU made a break through Teariki Ben-Nicholas who went streaking down the sideline before turning the ball back on the inside to Adam Clark who in turn found Matt Fowler to score under the posts.

22-0 OBU after 10-minutes.

Kerr-Newell got his second try 17-minutes into the game when Paddy Carter offloaded the ball close to the line.

Only a few minutes later Upper Hutt prop Vaughan Koopu was shown yellow card after a late no arms tackle. Luckily for his side, OBU was unable to capitalise on having an extra man and the two sides went into the break with the score 29-0.

Shortly after half-time, Kerr-Newell completed his hat-trick, scoring from a rolling maul and extending his sides lead to 36-0.

Matt Sleith and Ben Stephens then added a try each to push the full-time score out to 48-0 to OBU.
