OBU: 17 HOBM: 38

Old Boys University were unable to put any points on the scoreboard in the second half against Hutt Old Boys Marist, despite going close on a number of occasions, including a disallowed try.

A penalty kick on the stroke of halftime saw OBU take a 17-14 lead into the break. They were unable to add to their score in the second half, however, with HOBM running in four unanswered tries.

HOBM controlled much of the play early in the game despite flanker Daniel Corderoy receiving a yellow card for collapsing and OBU maul close to the line. Tries from HOBM outside backs Salesi Rayasi and Jordan-Glen Bradbrook saw OBU down 14-0 after 20-minutes.

However, OBU hit back almost immediately from the ensuing kick-off with flanker Shamus Langton scoring for the goats to bring the score back to 14-7.

Some more pressure deep in opposition territory saw second-five Izzy Foai score OBU’s second try of the afternoon. Foai received the ball off the back of a five-metre scrum and waded his way through the HOBM defence almost untouched to score his third try in as many matches this season.

During the second half, OBU went close to scoring on a number of occasions, including having a try disallowed for obstruction during a pick-n-go close to the line. However, they were unable to add to their 17 first-half points.

Next week OBU will take on Avalon at Fraser Park.
